Donatos is Making a Comeback
« on: June 05, 2021, 08:25:06 PM »
According to this recent article, the Donatos pizza chain is making a comeback:

https://www.eatthis.com/news-donatos-pizza-florida/

The Donatos pizza is another one of the examples were some of us attempted to reverse engineer and clone the dough used to make their pizzas. As it turned out, there were several threads devoted to that objective. For those fans of the Donatos pizza as it existed at the time of the above efforts, here are some of those threads:

To the above, I would add that member AimlessRyan once worked for Donatos and was helpful, along with member Wazatron, in the cloning exercise.

When I lived in Cincinnati years ago. There was one about 1/2 mile from my house.
So it was our favorite by default.   ;D

I didnít know that there was a comeback to be made. I have never seen them outside of Ohio, but in Columbus they are all over the place.
I said to my little one, "come here so I can change you".
He said "change only comes from within".  :-/

The Broz,

I went to the Donatos website that shows their locations (https://www.donatos.com/locations) and counted 16 states, however, some of their locations are in the Red Robin chain. The 16 states are Ohio, Idaho, Alabama, Indiana, Washington, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Pennsylvania. I counted about 275 locations. Of those locations, it looks like 115 are in Ohio. So, you are correct that there are a boatload of locations in Ohio.

Ah I see what is going on.  My two previous locations were Seattle and Phoenix, and I would have never thought I would see a Donato's there.  So your answer shocked me.  I looked it up though, and those regions have their Donato's being sold inside Red Robin locations.  For some reason, that did not shock me - maybe I saw a sign at a Red Robin once.  It seems like an odd pairing, but I wonder if they are just selling the same frozen Donato's that we can buy in the grocery stores and Costco here.
Good for them though.  I am not a big fan, but I have craved that pepperoni pizza from time to time.

Peter B...
The pizza at RR is hideous. It's comparable to a frozen pizza at WMT. Since they use egg in the original recipe they can't freeze the dough. It was not E2E pep and was about 10" and a price point of $12...it belongs on the kids menu at best...waitress told me Donatos was out of Chicago..all clueless
