preview--Delonghi DSM800!
« on: November 05, 2003, 01:31:48 PM »
Hi folks,

First of all....glad to see things are back up and running again on this web board! :)  I was going through withdrawal.

Second of all...thought you folks might be interested in this.  My cheapo plastic Oster stand mixer broke a while ago, and I've been shopping around for a new and much better one.  I've had my eye on the KitchenAid ones for awhile....but I think I've found something even better.  I'll put it this way--one reviewer called this thing "Mixilla"; another called it the "SUV of the stand mixer world"!

It's the Delonghi DSM800 stand mixer.  It has--get this--a SEVEN QUART bowl!  I figured it out and did the conversions--assuming around three cups of flour per pizza dough, it could make about NINE pizza doughs at once!  It uses 800 watts (!) of power--the high-end KitchenAid Professional mixer uses only 350 watts.  It has a locking latch to hold the bowl in place while mixing, and there's a timer and electronic speed control.

The whole thing is made of metal, and is larger than most normal stand mixers...if you're cramped for space, this might not be the unit for you.  But if you're looking to make lots of pizza dough at once, like me, and can't get one of those huge professional pizzeria dough mixers, this is a relatively inexpensive way to do it!

I just ordered mine...since I'm in Canada, the cheapest I could get it, after all taxes/customs/brokerage charges/GST was factored in, was via mail order from NeutronCanada.com at $371 US ($500 Cdn); and believe me, I looked ALL OVER the place trying to find the best deal, so this is it.  This is still cheaper than Sears Canada, which sells it for $700 Cdn before tax.  If you live in the US, there are places online that sell it for as little as $301 US.

I can't wait to get mine and try it out...I played around with it in Sears, and it looks AWESOME!

Here's a link to the product:

If anyone else orders it, post your comments!  I'll be interested to see what everyone thinks...

Cheers,
Dave

Canadave- I have been Jones'in that machine!  I use my 350w Kitchen-aid for everything from meatballs to pie crust.  I like to cook in big batches, so the extra capacity would be very helpful.

For most dough though ( ya know), I like my trusty bread machine.  Will I get bounced from the board for this?  Throw in your recipe, set for dough, get it goin' for a few minutes to check the texture, then walk away till it calls you.  Sure, you still have a little work to do after it comes out, depending on your recipe, but ain't technology wonderful?

Everyone have a good evening, and remember our women and men overseas.  My son, GBW, leaves Bagdad International, Nov 7!

Remember Acciuga: the little fishies make the pizza!

The mixer should be in on Monday!

And I found out something else about it.  It has a TEN YEAR warranty!!!  Beat that, KitchenAid!
