    It was the worm gear not the planitary gear.I checked out the website you posted. It showed the plastic worm gear as one of the most replaced parts.HA! Did the company forget about quality ? I'll have to check if there is a metal gear replacement.           Thanks,cliff

Apparently, from what they said, the worm gear is meant to fail if there is an overload to prevent further damage.

It's just an excuse for useing a cheap part in their mixers and giving their authorized repair dealers more buisiness.How would you like plastic gears in your car to fail,cause you were driving too fast,to prevent possible damage, causing you a blown transmission.                cliff

It's funny. I bought the newest model six months ago and gave away the one I inhereted from my mother that's got to be 50 years old. I rather have the old one.

If they were concerned about the unit not being torn up in use, they would have mounted a overload circut breaker on the unit, that could be reset outside of the unit..

I just got a 5 Qt KitchenAid at Sam's, 350 watt.
It stalls with heavy doughs, thats a no no for sure!
I am mixing doughs very moist from now on!
I got it so hot the moter was stinking! It still works fine.
Wish I had got the 525 watt one now but it might not do the 6 cup batches any better, live and learn.

You do realize that a 5 quart KitchenAid goes for about $250 and the Hobart is almost $1500?
