Are mixers with spiral dough hooks & Spiral Mixers the same?

What is the difference between the two? It looks like the spiral mixer has more power because it can knead a larger batch of dough. But just what are the other factors that make spiral mixers better? I don't plan to buy a spiral mixer on account they are ridiculously expensive. Just curious.  :-\

No. They are not by a long shot by mode of operation. The main difference is the breaker bar. It ensures that the spiral of the mixer only works on a limited batch of the dough at a time. Whereas the spiral hook mixer moves the whole dough ball and depends a lot on the friction between the dough and the container to twist and align the gluten. And that friction is causing the somewhat easier overheat.

Spirals are a bit more foolproof, spiral hook - they have a better visual tell when dough is ready.

Spiral mixers are a better tool for making though, but this does not mean that they make that much better dough. It's the operator of the machine that determines the outcome.

I have used the professional 5L electrolux mixer (for you overtheponders - N50 but even more sturdier) and my famag 8s - and when keeping within the rated quantity for the electolux the doughs were very similar.

So those are my 2 cents. Also I think that extremely cheap spiral mixer (you can find 10 kg two speed made in turkey mixers for 300 euro) are much better than the entry level models with spiral hook.

Personally I don't want either of them.
What I want is a more robust version of my wife's Sunbeam Mixmaster.
It has two spiral dough hooks that counter rotate, and a two speed motor driven bowl.
Love it, but I can't find anything similar for sale. Not even Sunbeam now sell one with a driven bowl.
