Found a pretty good, and cheap gadget to slice Pepperoni sticks.

I ordered a deli slicer last week off Ebay but my order ended up getting canceled.  I thought about how big the machine would be, and needing power and the one I'm looking at you have to take apart with an Allen Wrench to clean it. Anywho, I bought a Zakarian by Dash Safe Slice Upright Mandolin, I got it on QVC for $36, Amazon has they for a bit more without the Zakarian branding.

I have a decently nice normal Mandolin which does a terrible job at Pepperoni. I have the small food processor attachment for the Bosch Universal Mixer, which is unusable for Pepperoni. My Breville Sous Chef does a great job usually, but it's bulky, takes a lot of time to get out and get set up and cleaning it is a pain.  Can't beat the speed of it actually cutting them, but I normally just slice up 2 sticks so it's just not worth it.

I didn't have high hopes this would work well, but decided to give it a try tonight. Now I've only used it for Pepperoni once, so I can't comment on how it'll hold up for this task. But I was extremely impressed at how well the Roni came out.  The thickness is adjustable from .5 to 8mm. And it's a vertical mandolin so it would be just about impossible to slice yourself open while using it. The feed tube's much more narrow than a standard mandolin, but for Pepperoni it's plenty big. I took a Dietz & Watson stick out of the fridge and sliced 1 of the sticks in half, the mandolin cut it like butter. Every slice was even and there were no pieces with torn up edges. For around $40 this thing's been awesome the few times I used it. It's also easy to clean and folds up nice and compact.  I don't know how it'll work with other brands of Pepperoni - I plan to buy a Boar's Head stick to test it out next week. But if it works this well with others this is the best method I've found to slice Pepperoni that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and/or take up half a counter.

I really really suck bad at slicing Pepperoni by hand, and where I buy my Dietz & Watson sticks the deli counter won't slice them for me. And that's my favorite Roni for the price so I had to find a way to slice it and with my OCD and limited knife skills doing it by hand would be a no go.

Anyways here are 2 pics, I only took a pic of a single Pepperoni, but they all came out looking the same. It was set to 1mm, I think I'll try .5 when I make pizzas next week so I'll post a few pics.

Is that sliced on the bias? In other words is it an oval slice or a circular slice?

Edit to add, I'm not good at slicing pepperoni either.

Wow, can't believe I didn't even pay attention to this, I guess the uniform thickness and clean cuts made me overlook the obvious.  Welp, I just sliced some more and they definitely cut on a slight bias. It's not super oblong, but they look oval for sure. Since I already sliced them I'll use them on a pizza who knows maybe they'll cup?  I like round Pepperoni though so after your question this is no longer going to be my preferred method to cut Pepperoni - boy that was quick lol.

My wife is bugging me on what to get me for my birthday and I had shown her a link to one of those recently. I'm okay with biased cut meats, cheese, veggies vs. grinding or slicing my fingers. :-D

btw- she always says no to the Porsche.

I recently got one of these that I saw in another thread. My first go with it on pepperoni was just OK. I think there was some operator error. Definitely going to give it a few more tries before judging it on pepperoni.

I used it to make fries and 5lb of potatoes took no time,  the few other times I used it, it's easier than my $80 Mandolin if someone made a version with a blade as wide as a regular mandolin I would pay easy 3x the price for it.  I got it on sale for $30 and outside of it being all plastic except for the blades it doesn't feel super cheap. Even the suction cups on it actually stay attached to my counter. I bought a rotary cheese grinder to grate my pizza cheese, and the suction cup comes detatched after half a turn, I tried on every kind of surface in the house with no luck so it's pretty much unusable.

If the Pepperoni's still cup up, I guess I'll be making pizzas with football shaped ones.  And while it's considerably more money ($70) the Pampered Chef version of this isn't expensive, and seems to quite a bit nicer. On this one if you want to julian you have to slice regularly then change the blade setting and do it again. That one it's just 1 step. But 2 steps still beat me trying to do fries by hand and having them come out 6 different sizes lol.

I was looking at that but was worried when I couldn't find a single review video on YT. Just a few short product videos from random Chinese companies. Also I'm always a bit wary about Chinese products from a no-name company.   It sure looks nice though.     The fact I ordered and even after it being canceled am still considering ordering a pretty nice electric deli slicer just for Pepperoni tells me I have a problem lol.

I buy pepperoni already sliced. Work save on slicing it, but good idea!!!!

I sometimes use pre-sliced too. I look at it as one of the "greatness is in the fine detail" things. The pre-sliced pepperoni available to me locally as a home cook is OK, but not as good as the pepperoni I can get in sticks. Even if it is from the same manufacturer like Margherita.
