Mixing/prep bowls: Duralex or Luminarc?
« on: March 03, 2023, 03:07:13 PM »
This is a surprisingly difficult question to get information on...Google, Ecosia, and Bing all come up empty. I'm hoping some of you might have had experience with these things!

Background: It's time to get rid of our mis-mash of mixing/prep bowls, and we've decided on clear glass in a variety of sizes (from 4qt down.) We want to keep them from the same maker so they nest nicely.

Pyrex doesn't make anything we want, we've had bad luck with Anchor Hocking, which leaves the two big makers: Duralex and Luminarc. We have no place locally where we can get hands-on with these brands, and (like most things) we're limited to mailorder.

So, I have two questions:

1. Any major differences in shape? It's hard to tell from pics that are taken at different angles; they look pretty close, but I've found small differences in profile can have big impacts on use.
2. Is either more durable (say, more resistant to edge chipping) than the other? Any thickness/weight difference?

Thanks for any insight you can give!
