Best recs near Sunnyside Queens

Hello, I will be visiting NYC in march and it’s my first time there - Looking to try authentic ny style. Wondering if there are some strong recommendations near sunnyside queens ?

I will be going into Manhattan of course but wanted to know if there are some good spots near where I’m staying.

Authentic will mean different things to different people. But for quality, Sunnyside has Philomena’s, which is getting a lot of deserved attention right now. Great slices, both round and square.

If “authentic” means the way it was in the 70’s and 80’s, you’re probably fine to just stop in any small shop with a beat up looking awning that sells by the slice. If you want old school standouts, the thread Jon linked to has excellent suggestions that will take some traveling to get to.

The squares at Philomenas are in my top 2 squares in the city.   Definitely go there!!  Tell Dave that Scott from Boston said hello (he is a really great guy)
