Shred cheese not muscles
« on: April 30, 2022, 06:37:33 AM »
Hello everyone. Iím a week from opening and have noticed cheese shredding is an issue, especially that Iíve just inured my right elbow. I donít have a mixer that has attachments. Iím having trouble figuring out the best way to shred cheese. I just need to shred 10kg or so a week.
Does any one have a solution other then using a small grater by hand? :o :)

But it pre-shredded?

Not sure what is available to you in Japan, but here are some options:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S34B31J/?tag=pmak-20
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096LQZ99N/?tag=pmak-20
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DPVY4KD/?tag=pmak-20     <--  Don't know what type of mixer you have but this is an attachment for a Hobart mixer so may not work for you.

I have not used any of them, so don't know if they are good or bad.

As a home cook, I use a salad shooter pro for 1-2 kg at a time. I can't imagine it lasting too long at 10 kg/week. I'd guess you'd get at least a month or two out of it for about $70 us.

not sure how long it would take to get one to Japan, but these things are hypnotic. Probably overkill for 10 kg/week.

Got a deli slicer? Maybe thin slices would work instead of shredded.

Thank you very much everyone.  I donít have space for that ,Eva shredder but it sure looks good. I was wondering about the hand crankers. One thing I worry about Is the cheese smudging. Not sure if pre freezing a bit would help. Second issue is no space in freezer. This is a really small shop.
I guess I will try one of the little hand cranked types.

Look up Norpro potato grater. For 14ish bucks it will beat those hand graters hands down! Love mine!!! Grates cheese into large pencil thick shreds.

Looks like the one I have.  Only used a few times but works great.

I tried the salad shooter pro thing-a-ma-jig.
Not a fan of that noise it generates, and the attachment it came with made some stringy cheese that seemed to burn easily. or its my imagination. it seems like fun for my cucumbers though. I am gonna try that potato peeler and see if that is better than the box grater I am currently using.
I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.
