Las Vegas?
« on: September 29, 2021, 11:48:20 PM »
Hi guys...
Looking for the  best shops in town...not for me but for a  friend who's gone above and beyond helping me on a big project . Not in the pizza business but enjoys pizza a lot, is a relative newcomer to town . Best places?
Thanks!

Yukon Pizza, naturally leavened, Tony G's Pizza Rock and John Arena's Metro Pizza are the three must visit spots IMO. I enjoyed them all in August.

I was disappointed with Pizza Rock.  I went there five years ago for my 50th birthday and tried several styles of pizza (but not a NY) and none were impressive.

If you haven’t had a coal-fired pizza, there are several Grimaldi’s locations.
Things have never been more like today than they are right now.

From what I have seen online, Good Pie and Metro would be my first picks. Never been to Vegas. Metro is supposed to a have 5 day ferment for a Sicilian that sounds really good.

I think your friend should take a look at the Instagram pages or websites for whatever shops come up here. Get some idea of what they have and how that compares to what they like.

Having lists of pizza places in random places in case you ever visit is normal, right?

There is also a place called Settebello's that was formed many years ago by a then member of the forum by the name of Brad Otton. However, I do not have any idea as to the merits of the Settebello's pizzas.

My experience with two Settebello locations in CA (Pasadena and Oxnard) is that they make fine Neapolitan pizza during busy evenings, i.e., the ovens are at full Neapolitan temperature.  However, I’ve been there during brunch and lunch where they where cooking eggs and other breakfast items in the WFO and the pizzas were baked for five minutes or longer.   Their best pizzas IMO are served during happy hour on Thursday and Friday.  They’re 180 gram dough balls, topped with whatever you want and the cost is $6 each.

It's been a long while but I really enjoyed the NY slices at Secret Pizza in the Cosmopolitan.

As a Las Vegan, let me add a general caveat to any discussion about pizza in Las Vegas:  Our water is horrific.  It is so hard that it fairly well comes out of the faucet in chunks. So, straight out of the tap, RO, or any other kind of softening treatment will have corresponding effects on the dough/crust. There are good, serviceable pizzas in LV, but nothing, to my mind, that would be considered great or necessarily worth seeking out of its own accord.  Just my $.02

Old School Pizza across the street from the Cannery parking garage on Craig is my go-to place. Took my NY coworker there and he was impressed.

I’ve never been to Vegas but I saw this video today and thought the pizza looked great. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CVVYGanFo7c/?utm_medium=copy_link

metro was a huge disappointment for me,  then again my expectations might not be realistic....
it did not taste any better than my pizza.

I wouldn’t go to Pizza Rock for NY style. Can’t comment on the other styles though.
I said to my little one, "come here so I can change you".
He said "change only comes from within".  :-/
