Sal's Authentic New York finally in Sydney, Aus
« on: June 20, 2023, 09:26:43 PM »
I've been waiting for these guys to finally make it to Sydney after getting to try them in Melbourne a couple of years ago. After years of people pretending to do a NY Style here in the form of places like Epic Pizza, Frankie's (closed down), Mikey's Pizza, My Mother's Cousin, etc, it's so good to have truly decent one with legit ingredients here in Sydney. I'm sure if I was comparing directly to places in NY, I'd be able able pick on a few things. If anything I'd say that stands out, it's probably that base doesn't taste like it's got a long enough CF perhaps. Other than that it's still so far ahead of all the garbage takeaway pizza we have here it's not funny :)

Well my second experience with Sal's was slightly tarnished by something I definitely don't expect from a good purveyor of NY Slice in NYC. I order one of the standard 14" pies they offer with half Pepporoni and half extra cheese. When it arrived, most of the cheese had slid over into one side. However both sides actually lacked cheese, even though there wasn't a heck of lot that seems to have had slid anywhere. I'm hoping this is the last order was the exception to the rule as it definitely put a damper on my enthusiasm for their pizza.

I've now had two more lots of Sal's. Seems the issues I've mentioned are previously are starting be ironed out, probably can be put down to teething issues. I finally got to take a couple of pics of the actual pizza, with the exception that we'd already eaten the pepperoni half. I've also noticed now that these pizzas are cooked on a screen.

Some better pics from my last pizza and slice order. Tried an extra cheese pepperoni. Two standard pepperoni slices also for comparison. The extra cheese was a little quite a bit oilier so probably something I won’t order again now I’ve tried it. The standard pepperoni will definitely do me.
