Tom Lehmann has Passed Away
« on: December 12, 2020, 09:32:33 PM »
I was informed today by Tom "The Dough Doctor" Lehmann's wife that he passed away this afternoon from his battle with Covid. He was surrounded by family. Her message was very short.

"Tom passed away this afternoon. He is with the Lord now."

Tom was the most knowledgeable, selfless, professional in our industry that I have ever had the honor of knowing and working with. He was a great friend and always willing to help with anything. He never belittled you for you ignorance or lack of knowledge about a topic. Instead, he would make sure you walked away understanding it very clearly.

As anyone who got to meet Tom or spend any time with him knew, he always had a story for every occasion. Forever the epic tale teller, his stories were always full of important information which made them worth listening to every second of. He will be missed and forever in my heart and the heart of our industry.

God Bless Tom. You will be missed my friend. Light those ovens in the sky and save me a seat at your table. You better have some bread ready for when I come knocking.

EDIT (12/12/21): For a recent PMQ article reminding readers of Tom’s accomplishments over a 50-year career, see https://www.pmq.com/tom-lehmann/.

That is so sad.  Brian said it all.  He helped me out many times and Norma and I got to hang with him at the pizza convention.  There will be a big hole in the pizza world.  and in my soul  :'(

Very sad to hear this. A bad week for the pizza industry, first Shawn Randazzo and now Tom. Tom will be sorely missed, RIP.

Wow, very sorry you had to convey that news and sorry to hear of Toms passing.
He will be missed for sure. Although I never met Tom I was a follower and really appreciated his bottomless knowledge and willingness to help all of us advance our pizza making skill set.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I learned so much from Tom through this forum. His willingness to share his knowledge inspired me to do the same in multiple Facebook pizza groups. It’s after 11pm but I’m going to go make dough right now for pizza tomorrow in his honor. RIP

I’m sad to hear about this.  It’s a huge loss to the pizzamaking community.  His class and generosity will not be forgotten.  God bless his family.

Aside from his vast knowledge, he was a great person who I got to know here on this forum thru message exchanges and wish I could have met him in person! We had a lot of like interests beyond baking and pizza in the hunting, shooting and fishing......
God bless you Tom and family, you will be missed a very long time, irreplaceable!!!!

Thank you, Brian, I’m so sorry this is how it ended for the Doc and his family. What a terrific photo you have to remember him by! He leaves behind a tremendous body of work and legacy like no other. Yet, knowing him only by his exchanges here, I sense these things were 3rd or 4th on his list of ‘things that are important to me.’

If any of us are not better bakers than we were before first hearing of Tom and reading his posts, it's our own fault. This is a sad day for his many friends and followers here.
