Where do you get boxes for Detroit style?
« on: May 18, 2022, 11:55:25 PM »
So my mini "pizza business" isn't even up and going yet. But I'm thinking I'd really like to offer Detroit pizzas one weekend a month. I spent probably an hour scouring Google and found 1 place that has 10x14 Detroit pizza boxes. They had no price, fill out a quote form and they'll contact you. So I'm waiting for them to call, but I'm already assuming they'll require an order of like 50 cases of 50 boxes or something crazy. I'm wondering why I'm not seeing any other sites selling that size.  I know this isn't a pizza or pizza size you see in a lot of states. But there has to be somewhere with the boxes. I did find some companies that do custom size boxes, but that would require a ginormous order. Where do places that do Detroit style get their boxes?  The only place locally that sells them is Little Ceasers so it's not like I can ask them where they get their boxes lol.

Stick to one product and one product only for now, until you find your footing.

Get to know your possible clientele first, what they like, etc. Hand out a gazillion free pizzas to get feedback. I've done this by teaming up with a super busy liquor store, for example.

I delivered free pies to get feedback from the community. Handed out menus as well. Instagram is mandatory, at this point.

Stick to one style of pizza! You don't need nor want personalized pizza boxes, not to mention special shapes. Nobody is going to sell you only 50 or a 100. Lose that thought quickly.

You're going way too overboard with this.

Forgot to mention...

Perfect your dough first!

Have a clear vision of what you want your dough to be like. Then look at your oven. You have a pretty new oven.

Get to know it. Inside out.

Learn where the hotspots are, see how it performs. Until you know that oven, and can pull pies out like a pro, you're going to run into problems.

Tailor your dough to your oven! That's the best advice I can give you.

Did you ever find a box supplier? I'm facing the same problem.

I go to my local restaurant supply store and ask them to order a 2" thick box. 14"X14".

Yeah there's 2" inches on each side of the 10"x14" pizza - but that leaves space for a handful of basil, side of hot honey, mini bottle of whiskey you get on an airplane...  ;D
