Things often don't make sense for sure. I am glad we can do it in Nevada because 90% of our sales are with credit cards. When someone does ask (about 5 since we opened) we explain that the charges on us make it not worth taking credit cards and share there is an ATM in our parking lot if they prefer to pay cash
Cash is a PITA for a small business in Oz.
Here in my home town, most businesses are quite happy to take the card. (Some post a transaction minimum, some post a small fee).
I usually ask which they prefer, most will say they want me to pay by card so they don't have to make change and take cash to the bank.
Even the lady cop at the Police Station when I registered my new rifle the other day.
"Can you swipe your card?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Beauty, I hate making change and going to the bank."
Lately, I went to a small town I grew up in - maybe 1000 people now.
They still manage to support a corner shop. I make it a rule not to drive past without least buying a coke or something.
The other day, I bought a coffee milk, and asked the owner if I could pay with coins from the ashtray of the truck.
"How much you got?" he asked, "bring me the lot."
It's a retirement town now, the oldies like to pay with notes, and the bank is a thirty mile round trip for banking notes and getting rolls of coins for change.
He took every coin I had and gave me notes in exchange.
