KitchenAid Artisan unknown problem. Please help!

Hi everybody!
My sister's KitchenAid Artisan started to make really loud noises. After checking the forum I opened it and looked for broken gears, missing grease, brushes, etc. but everything was perfect.
It seams that it doesn't change the speed when I move the controller and after a minute or so it starts to stuck.
I think it might be the governor but I'd like others opinion because I live in Argentina and the replacements parts are really difficult and expensive to get. I cannot buy the replacements for all the possible causes.

Does the motor feel smooth when you turn it by hand? My first  guess would be a bad motor bearing.

Sounds like it might need new brushes. That sounds like an arc to me. So that would likely be brushes of something on the back of the motor. Find a piece of hose, put one end in ear and use the other to find the source of the noise.

I thought the same by the noise (at least part of the noise), but the motor stalling/humming seems to indicate something is stopping the armature from turning, which could very possibly be a bearing as apizza said.

I had a Hobart-made KA 45-SS that lasted close to 30 years!! I'm willing to bet that today, they
won't last even 3 months, because Whirlpool makes them so cheap & inferior!! Get the Nutrimill Artiste. They last & last & last!!!!

Yes, really smooth without the brushes, and with some resistance with them.

Thank you for your response. It was the first thing I change. But it's the same with the new ones too (although they aren't originals). I also hear like an arc. Could it possible be where the brushes touch? Maybe it's not really clean or it's worned out. Could that stuck the engine? I'll do the hose technic.

Thank you! But it only happens when it's on. Turned it by hand is fine. Also the speeds don't change.

I would hate to have to say it, but any work done on the motor is probably going to cost you a lot of money. That is why I was saying that you should dump it. The money that you'll spend getting that mixer fixed, it could go toward a new one of another brand.

Call a repair place that works on them for some feedback on what might be wrong, or the KA service line.....worth a shot!

But don't be suprised when they hit you with the price. For instance if it's going to cost you about what you paid for the old mixer, or even more, then hang up & look for another mixer. In the meantime, start mixing stuff by hand if you got strong arms.

Thinking more of getting advice from a pro as to what's wrong and then DIY.....

I once had a used car that kept on breaking down. Every month there was something wrong with it. I've spent just as much keeping it fixed as I did paying for the car itself!! I finally dumped it after being screwed because it just kept on breaking down. Didn't want it any more!!
