Living in Austin my first time having this style was at a place called Via 313. The brothers who started Via 313 brought this pizza to Austin many years ago from Detroit where they are from.
Today was my second attempt at a Detroit style pizza thanks to a friend of mine who sent me Brick cheese from Wisconsin. I used the Serious Eats recipe as my baseline. The pizza in the foreground is topped with pepperoni and a quick pickled jalapeņo I made earlier today. The pizza in back is a hot Italian sausage pizza and jalapeņos.
Looking forward to many more attempts of this style.
