Galbani vs. Precious Mozzerlla
« on: September 27, 2011, 01:49:48 PM »
Galbani and Precious are two brands of whole milk Mozzerlla available to me locally.

For those of you that have used both, which do you prefer?

Go to the bottom of each "about" page on your links
Same company  "Lactalis"

I think you are comparing apples to apples
Nothing like a taste test to make your decision, but I'm betting they are the same.

Hi Perry,

Hey, good call!  That's an astute observation, they may be the same.

I tried the Galbani last night - 1/2 the pizza was pure Galbani and the other half was 3/4 Galbani, 1/4 Jack with some fresh Parmesan grated in.  The pure Galbani side was nice (better than skim Mozzarella) but the side with Jack was better.

Thanks again Perry, I think I'll do some searching on this site for people's various ideas on favorite cheese combinations.

Picked up some Galbani dry mozzarella today, it was pretty cheap.

Yes, Galbani and Precious are from the same company, they also sell under the name Sorrento. Lately in my area, packaging that said "Sorrento" is labeled with both the Sorrento and Galbani name. I have a suspicion that "Sorrento" will be used for food service, and Galbani will be used on their retail products.

Same parent company, but I don't think they are the same. If I remember right, the Precious is a bit higher fat content. I use the Galbani Mozzerella Fresca water packed cheese fairly often. My store carries some Precious, but I don't remember ever seeing any that is water packed.

I have talked with the Galbani Compnay before and eventually they are planning to drop the Precious Brand name. That is why you see both Precious Chees and Galbani on the same package.

I've had Sorrento back east, and I've had Precious in LA.  They are not similar in texture, flavor, or shape.  If they're made by the same company, they're still two very different products.  And it was LM/WM 1-lb bricks in both instances.
Quote under my pic excludes Little Caesar's.
