Mike, Yes, I realized I wasn't clear enough however my burner is round and when too close it did create hot spots that lead to overcharring. I pushed the oven heat up the last bake in lil' oven which went well however the original plastic knobs and the oven seal weren't up to the task. I knew it was a matter of time before this happened. I had to pry and cut the plastic off and I removed the valves as they are not used. I may try and form some aluminum foil as a seal.

When you say that the 1/8" plate is okay depending on how close to the burner, that means too close could be a problem, right? I'm guessing there would be a hot spot on the plate. I'm thinking about positioning the burner 6-8" under them bottom plate.
