Portable mod for MPO
« on: August 10, 2013, 09:05:33 AM »
I have been working on a potable mod for MPO using 2 10,000 BTU Colman burners. The first test looks very promising. It needs more tweaking for better heat distribution and better mounting for the rotating BBQ motor.

Bert,  looks nice,  Any plans to try to make it able to sit on two burners on a stove -  the main problem I see is that the burners sit in front and back, so that could present a problem.

Thanks Barry,

If this setup works, my plan is to get one manufactured with the BBQ shaft in horizontal so i can have a lower profile base. The same base should work with 2 colman burners or the indoor gas stove. The legs can be eaily removed.

Also, I am hoping to increase the size of the bottom stone from 13" to 15".

Bert, sounds like a good idea, though if you want to do it on a conventional stove top, you might have to add a duct so that the heat from the front and rear burners gets combined to make a more even heat for the full 15 inches - and of course, it needs to load from the front, not the side.

Thanks Barry, I tried 15" stone yesterday, it was too heavy and unstable for my home made setup.

In case any one interested,

I built last night and tried to my heat reflectors design, they worked better than I expected. Top stone reached 800 deg f within 20 minutes (areas close to heat reflectors) .

The bottom stone still an issue, the outer rim of the stone is getting much hotter than the center because I am using grill grates to support the stone. To get consistent temperature all across the stone, it seems I have to use a steel disc to support the stone and distribute more heat all across the stone.

The deflectors worked great, I place an order for steel plate with shaft to improve bottom stone heat.

See http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,27049.0.html for today pizza test. MPO 1st 60 sec. pie, not a pretty pie compare to other 60 sec pies, still I think  it is great accomplishment.
