« on: May 17, 2014, 08:32:09 PM »
I am starting the top part of my dryfit and the only part so far that will not be dryfit will be the perlcrete insulation under the hearth firebricks.  I would like to pour tomorrow, my question i pose is 4" of 6:1 perlcrete good or do i need 6"?  Thanks

6 is obviously better but 4 would work.  My coal oven only has 4 and is built on a metal base, even at 1000F tonight the metal didn't get warm.  Just be gentle with the perlite so you don't break it down and lessen its insulating capacity.  I personally mix mine by hand with elbow length rubber gloves.
