Sacramento, Reno, Sparks Pizza reccomendations
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:11:31 PM »
I am off to these places Wed.  Does anyone know of a good NY style deck pie place?  I am not interested in WFO operations.  The person I am visiting lives in SACTO so he knows most of the spots but knows nothing of Reno/Sparks.  Thanks.  Walter

Walter, in Sac, Pizza Rock, has several ovens and my wife has eaten there and enjoyed the pie. I have eaten at Tony's however in SF, Rohnert Park and Vegas, and like his pies. Can't say I have eaten pizza in Reno or Sparks.
Safe trip!!!!

I got back yesterday and the pizza report for NY style deck pies is good or bad depending on ones perspective.  For someone wanting to open a real deal NY style pizzeria it is beyond good but for a consumer it is pretty bad.  Sacramento-I tried pizza rock, some slice place downtown that claimed to be NY but looked more like papa johns,  a few WFO places, and a chicago deep dish place.  All were bad to worse.  I tried 3 places in Reno and the report is the same.  I think I could make a killing with the pies we serve but the cost of living, rent, make OH look pretty good to me today :).   I ate some great food in SACTO and would love to have that available here but the pizza was bad.  I ate everyday in a small breakfast place with a Mexican flair to it.  The owner shared a lot of info on renting in SACTO.  Anyway, for now OH is fine with me.  Walter

Thanks Bob!  The sad news is the consumer is willing to eat most anything with dough, cheese, sauce.  Walter
