I keep a stack of paper plates exclusively for NY slices.  I'll occasionally eat the plate when the orange grease is especially good, I'm still hungry, and the only alternative would be to eat the crust.

We were thinking of ordering a NY pizza and letting the fat drip on the turkey.

How tough does your crust have to be for that to even be possible???  :-D

who eats ny pizza on a plate?  one of my favorite moments of the past year was teaching my son how to fold a ny slice so he could eat while walking around the city.

I pick the slice up off the plate and eat it. The plate stays on the table.
How is this even possible unless the plate is falling apart and sticks to the slice or you are putting the plate up to your face and shoving the slice into your pie hole?

I've started a couple of slices in my life off of a paper plate, simply because it was so effing hot.

I've bit into the plate, but never bit a piece of the plate off.

A pie straight out of the deck oven can't be held, you will get 3rd degree burns from the oils and hot steam.  But sometimes we can't wait, so we use the plate technique.

When you're famished, and the front incisors get the first gnaw of NY slice deliciousness, animal instincts take over and rip and tear like a pack of lions, paper plate is sometimes not spared when the intense heat fights you.

You can see that on the sidewalk outside of Artichoke's at 1am on Friday nights, a crowd of young drunks, gnawing savagely.
