I wish I had known you were looking.  I was just up in Germany a few weeks ago.  I would have brought you some of mine.  If you ever get in to Northern Italy, let me know...

Iíve had really good success dehydrating SD and shipping it to folks to rehydrate and feed.  Not much to it other than I make sure to keep the temp below 100f when dehydrating.

Thanks.  I will try that if the OP wants.

That would be great. Video about how to dry sourdough. The only thing that is important is to dry it below ~30-35įC or it dies.

Also, I store the dried SD in my freezer as my emergency backup.  Iíve revived it after more than a year in the freezer.

Why does the dude in the video have an umbrella inside his kitchen?

PM me your address and I will try to get this done this weekend. On second thought, is there any reason I can't just shoot you some of my active sourdough?  It can't take more than two days to get there and it is cool this time of year?

That would be great, I PMed you. Maybe send a bit more, so it has a better chance to survive and I can do a mistake and try again.

Thanks a lot!

The information i gathered in the internet is, that "fresh" sourdough dies after ~ 48 h. So sending it fresh will most likely be the death of it. A 3-10 day travel time is most likely.

Sorry.  Missed the PM.  I didn't get a chance to try to dry it this weekend.  I am going to get it done Saturday.  Sorry about that.

Are native Italian here, that can explain how the post in Italy works? Do I need to consider some regulations, when want to send dried yeast from Italy to Germany? - After nearly 4 weeks my mailing hasn't arrived yet.

I believe there are restrictions across Europe on this now, Iíve had issues when buying from eBay, yet if you order from sourdough international it gets delivered. Not sure what the difference is, they treat SD the same as certain foodstuffs, I guess they class as a hazard 🤔
