Not familiar with all languages and not familiar with the Stanislaus region HOWEVER, the French language is notorious for not pronouncing the "s" at the end of a word(the actual WORD Franšais, which means French, is pronounced kinda like, "Frawn-say". All of us English speakers can't really relate but then again... how many words in the English language end with a silent "e"??  :)

Then shouldn't it be "joy-see" instead of "jur-zee"?  :P

Peter,

I just now understood the pi number...no math brain here  :-D

As far as joi or joy goes, seriously, I never heard anyone here say New Joisey...I think that might be an archaic regionalism from one of the NYC boroughs..maybe from the Damon Ruyyan era.

It's a shame though, because it's quite colorful.

As far as a hot morning beverage, that, I will grant you, is called caw-fee

Hey Megan45,

I'm thinking you'd better come up here and see our fine state...bring shrimp and cheese grits from Crooks Corner in Chapel Hill, please.  :-D
