Tomato season is officially over
« on: November 09, 2007, 02:46:09 PM »
well, now that fresh ripe tomatoes have officially disappeared in New Jersey, I'm back to trying to find the best canned tomatoes.  I've been using Colavita (packed without citric acid) or Sclafani (also without citric acid).  I find if I let them sit a few days, they lose the tin can taste and get sweeter.  Anyone else have any recommendations.  I'd like to give 6 in 1 a try.

Same for the fresh Basil.  I live in NJ too and when I went outside on Thursday for some basil for a marinara sauce, it was all blackened and dead from a frost the night before...  I just hate going back to basil purchased from the produce section of the grocery store, its never as good as right from the garden.
