Pizza Oven Recommendation Sought
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:14:51 AM »
I am putting in an outdoor fireplace in my patio and am interested in putting in a pizza oven in the structure.
My thought is to be able to entertain 6- 10 friends at a time and am leaning to a gas-fired oven to reduce prep time.
Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what pizza oven will do the job, where I can buy it and if I should consider wood-fired as well. My budget is $3,000 or less for an oven.

We have installed a wood fired oven from Los Angeles Ovenworks in our backyard. (I am one of the founders of the company.)  We are still very happy with the choice of wood fired versus gas fired.  The oven heats up to about 900 degrees in 1 hour and it is easy to fire up, we just put a square of firestarter under the wood.  We let it cool down to about 700 degrees before starting to cook our pizza.

I know they have a model 80 that is small, we chose a larger model, but then we entertain a lot and cook a lot.   I think that the small oven ranges around $2,400.
