Pignoli or pine nuts

Have you noticed the difference in the taste of the pine nuts depending on the country of origin?  I guess we are used to those from European and not Oriental sources.  The price difference is huge.

The local ones here are very different from the mass-produced Chinese/Russian ones - much sweeter, less resin. My property is full of piņon trees, but they are a real pain to shell/peel. When I buy from the local stands, they are $11 - $15 per pound.
