Can I substitute Mozarella cheese ?
« on: July 23, 2009, 09:02:53 AM »
Mozarella cheese in my country is imported and very expensive. a 200g of mozarella cheese actually costs the same as 1 medium pizza from a pizzeria here.
Can we actually substitue it with other cheese when making a pizza? Cheddar cheese here is much cheaper than mozarella. a 200 g mozarella costs around $5 whereas cheddar cheese costs only about $1.70 . With $5 I can get a decent pizza here in my country.

So many cheeses go great on a pizza, depending on your tastes. Cheddar would not be on the top of my list. What other kinds of cheeses are available in Indonesia? A whole milk cheese on the moist side with a mild flavor and easy melting would be something I would seek out. In Mexico, for example, the Queso Oaxaca is even better for pizza than mozzarella, IMO.
